It seems our so called national game would loose all its sheen it has enjoyed over these years-the years when hockey not cricket was the people's game-the golden years when one could name countless idols from the sport and when people considered it as a potential career.Well everything that has a beginning has to end somehow, somewhere but sports never die-they just get more intense and competitive. The same happened with our hockey. The sport got modified to the extent when we-the undisputed champions got reduced to a bear hockey playing nation with hockey as its national game. Worse was to follow. Finding it difficult to adjust with the new synthetic fields our players lost all their support from their own IHF and the more important PEOPLE. The IHF appointed the new bash figure KPS Gill as its chairman theorizing that he would eliminate all the wrong doings of the sport the same way he annihilated terrorism from Punjab. But we tend to forget an important aspect of our lives-that no two situations are same neither their solution. Continuing debacle of all the coaches we turned finally to a foreign coach but to no good. The government continuing neglecting the sport and the media was only interested in publishing the masala stuff happening at fields. For if the media had not abondoned the sport at the crirtical juncture the situation with our national game would have been very differnet.
Hope, now we pity ourselves and work together in creating a new hockey and what more celebrating it too.
